Yes, it's the giant orb. Yes, you should go inside. The 366-foot LED dome is the most ambitious entertainment venue built in the last 50 years — the Postcard from Earth show is the easiest entry point, but the U2-and-other-residency concerts are where the Sphere becomes truly singular. The exterior light show alone is worth a Strip walk.

Insider tip

If a residency is running, splurge on those tickets. Otherwise, book Postcard from Earth — wear comfortable shoes; the seats are on a steep rake.

Lotus of Siam

Lotus of Siam

The Northern Thai restaurant that put Vegas dining on the serious-food map decades before the city had a serious-food map. Saipin Chutima's khao soi, drunken noodles, and crispy beef are the kind of dishes that travel writers fly in to eat. The Sahara location is a strip-mall room with no business looking this unassuming and serving food this important.

Raku

Raku

The late-night Japanese izakaya every Vegas chef goes to after their own shift ends. Mitsuo Endo's small, focused menu of robata-grilled meats, agedashi tofu, homemade tofu, and seasonal sashimi is built on Tokyo-trained technique and ingredients flown in from Japan. The room is tiny, the wait is long, and the meal is one of the city's most quietly important dining experiences.

Esther's Kitchen

Esther's Kitchen

James Trees's Italian restaurant put the Arts District on the dining map and never gave back the spotlight. Hand-rolled pasta, wood-fired pizza, and a bread program serious enough to stand on its own — all served in a room that feels worn-in despite being relatively new. Reservations are essential. So is the bread basket.

Pittock Mansion

A 1914 French Renaissance mansion perched on a thousand-foot hill overlooking the city. The house itself is a time capsule of early Portland wealth, but the real draw is the view — Mount Hood, Mount St. Helens, and the downtown skyline spread out below you like a postcard. The grounds are free to wander, and the hike up from Lower Macleay Park is one of the best urban trails in the city.

Red Rocks Amphitheatre

You already know about Red Rocks. But knowing about it and standing inside it at dusk while the sky turns violet behind the stage are two completely different things. This 9,525-seat amphitheatre carved into 300-million-year-old sandstone is not just Denver's greatest venue — it might be the greatest outdoor music venue on Earth. No hyperbole.
